Two people were killed by the train Havana-Holguín, in two different incidents occurred in the last hours in Perico, Matanzas, and Jatibonico, Sancti Spíritus, according to reports from witnesses of the tragic events.
Preliminary reports on social networks, not officially confirmed, reported the first accident, which happened on Tuesday night in Perico, when the driver of a car tried to pass the crossing while the train was approaching, but he did not have time to cross.
According to the publication of a member of the Facebook group “Bus & Truck Accidents for more experience and fewer victims” who travels on the train, it dragged the car for about 20 meters. As a result, the driver died, however, his companion managed to get out of the vehicle and is alive.
“Accident right now in this place. I don't know him well. I come on the Havana-Holguín train. A small car went to pass the intersection and did not have time to cross. The train dragged him 20 meters. Unfortunately, the driver of the car died and the passenger is alive,” the publication stated.
This version was confirmed by other passengers on the train, which was detained for some time after the incident. One of the Internet users stated that the deceased is a resident of Perico.
After continuing the trip, another tragic event, according to the reports of the passengers themselves.
Near Jatibonico, in the province of Sancti Spíritus, a man jumped in front of the train, apparently in an act suicidal, as reported by the author of the same post.
“And now another one was thrown at us on purpose, my God, for God's sake. He died too,” the user wrote in the comments section.
The event, which occurred on Wednesday morning, was confirmed by another person in the publication, however, there has been no information about it from the authorities or the local press.
Train passengers and relatives of some of them, who maintain telephone contact during the journey, lamented the death of the two people in such tragic circumstances, while ensuring that there is a lot of stress and concern among travelers after both incidents.
From June to August, Cuba recorded more than a thousand traffic accidents, in which 72 people died and 543 were injured, according to data provided by the Specialized Traffic Body of the General Directorate of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR).
During the first five months of this year, at least 3,620 road accidents, with a balance of 290 deaths and 2,807 injured, according to the same source.
