An injured person with several fractures after a collision between a motorcycle and a CUPET vehicle in Santiago de Cuba

The motorcyclist suffered several fractures as a result of the accident.


A motorcyclist was injured in the early hours of this Monday after his motorcycle collided with a CUPET panel that was transporting workers in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

The accident occurred at the intersection of the central Patria Avenue and Mariana Grajales Street for unknown reasons.

"The cart made a U-turn less than 50 meters from the traffic light. For me, the culprit", wrote Internet user Abel de los Reyes Sánchez in the Facebook group Bus & Truck Accidents, where he shared a photo of the scene.

In the last hours the independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta He identified the injured man as Joel Martínez, 45 years old, married and father of a 14-year-old teenager and another one-year-old child.

The aforementioned source specified - citing the testimony of the injured man's wife - that Yoel Martínez He has several fractures, specifically one in the hip, one in a leg and another in an arm.

According to the recent testimony of another witness, Yoel Martínez is admitted to the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, where he has already undergone surgery for an open fracture of the forearm.

“The fracture was radial ulnar, two pins were inserted into the bone and sutured”, revealed the source.

“Today they put a cast on his foot because of the fracture in his hip, it's called a derotator boot. It is placed to fix the foot with a stick so that it does not rotate and that side of the hip remains fixed,” he added.

At the time of writing there are no other confirmed details about the circumstances that led to this accident.

Road accidents of all kinds have not given up on Cuban roads since the beginning of the year, following the same trend that 2023 already left.

Last year there were 8,556 traffic accidents in Cuba in which 5,938 people were injured and another 729 died, according to data released by Colonel Roberto Rodríguez, head of the Specialized Traffic Body.
