Youtuber Anita Mateu travels to Cuba after living a year in Spain: "This is bittersweet"

"How everything has changed in one year," he said. The young woman was nostalgic to hug her family. He found a country in pieces.

The youtuber Anita Matthew, known for documenting her life as Cuban in Galicia, experienced a shock of reality upon returning to his homeland after a year living in Spain.

The Cuban situation, far from advancing, seems to have sunk further into decadence. "It's a bittersweet feeling," the young woman said regarding her trip, in a recent video posted on her YouTube channel.

Anita was surprised by how "everything has changed in one year", for the worse. The first thing you noticed is the great inflation that the people are suffering.

A soft drink costs 260 pesos, and it is a luxury that few people can afford, despite the oppressive heat in the country. A taxi within the city cost him 2,000 pesos, the equivalent of what a retiree earns in a month.

Anita arrived in Havana at night and she could not notice anything strange, but at dawn, when she went out to tour the city to meet some visits, she was shocked to see how dirt, misery and abandonment reigned in all the neighborhoods of the Cuban capital.

He traveled to the province where his mother lives, Holy Spirit. Upon returning home, he confessed that he has found a devastated nation, with destroyed houses, a shortage of transportation and an excessive increase in the cost of basic products that is suffocating the population.

The 27-year-old chose to bring gifts for her family and friends. "I don't want to leave anyone with nothing," he said, but then he realized that the suitcases are not enough to give Cubans everything they need to survive.

"It shocks me how dirty the streets are, how little maintenance they have. In Europe everything is organized," she commented and emphasized that she did not want to "act foreign," but contrasting her experience in Spain with the reality of Cuba, it was impossible not to be discouraged. .

Its perspective, in the form of a visual chronicle, presents a critical and sincere overview of Cuba currently.

"I see people sad, off. "Everyone is looking for something to solve," she said as she looked down at the camera moved.

Anita is island vacation and he promised his followers more videos about Cuba, surely with his usual optimistic approach, but without hiding the reality. He plans to return to Galicia soon because he is a legal resident in Spain and he loves that country, where he has his other home.
