The 63 National Baseball Series (SNB) began this Saturday in Cuba, not far from the serious electro-energy crisis that the island is experiencing, and due to this situation, the directors of the Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) have decided to hold the matches during the day.

“Given the country's energy situation, analyzed in the provinces that have stadiums with artificial lighting, it has been decided that for the moment the 63 SNB games will begin at 2:00 p.m.,” indicated information from the sports organization released. by social network X.

A note that slightly contradicts what was stipulated in the Technical Congress of the event, held last Wednesday, March 6 in the Adolfo Luque room of the Latin American Stadium, in Havana and where the director of the SNB Carlos Martín He said that “it will be played at 6:30 p.m. in all stadiums that have lighting and at 2:00 p.m. in those that lack it, except on Sundays where everyone is agreed for the afternoon," the official newspaper reports. Havana Tribune.

Likewise, it had emerged in said meeting that the main stadiums of Havana, Matanzas, Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, Las Tunas and Santiago de Cuba, were ready so far to host the night games.

At the beginning of February, The Cuban government announced the suspension of all ongoing sporting events due to the "low availability of fuel" on the island, which left several tournaments, including the SNB, on hold.

However, in recent weeks the baseball directors on the island toured the country's provinces and championed the participating teams, to give the green light to the biggest baseball classic.

The truth is that energy conditions on the island are critical and there is no improvement in sight in the near future.

With the departure for maintenance of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) and the CTE Nuevitas unit 6, plus the continuous breakdowns of the system, as well as the lack of fuel for its operation, the regime has been forced to extend the blackouts and a drastic cut in public lighting.

At a meeting of the Council of Ministers it was reported that the crisis in the country has led to extreme measures of restriction in the use of energy in the last year, resulting in the disconnection of 74% of public lighting and prolonged blackouts throughout Cuba.

Regarding the start of the SNB, inaugurated at the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium in Las Tunas, the locals fell 16-3 against Granma, while Industriales was better 10-1 than Isla de la Juventud.

Holguín was the executioner of Villa Clara 5-1 and Guantánamo of Santiago de Cuba 9-6. Meanwhile, Ciego de Ávila beat Camagüey 10-4, Sancti Spíritus 2-0 against Cienfuegos, and Matanzas 16-10 against Mayabeque.

In the last result of the day, the Pinar del Río team beat those from Artemisa 11 races to 4.

The SNB program includes a total of 75 games for each team, which will fight for one of the eight available tickets for the playoffs. Each subseries will be five games at the same venue, always from Tuesday to Sunday, where the visiting teams will be home-club weekend.

Fridays will be used for active rest and Mondays for transportation.
