The former Cuban political and opposition prisoner Ramón Jesús Velázquez Toranzo arrived in the United States, afterhaving been imprisoned in the prisons of the Cuban State for standing, together with his family, in the Santuario del Cobre, in Santiago de Cuba.
“The old man is at home. In the land of freedom and stronger than ever. It was something quick since yesterday and I wanted to be home before breaking the news. With an unbreakable spirit, as always,” said his daughter Rufina Velázquez through the social network Facebook.
The reactions to the arrival of Velázquez Toranzo to American soil were immediate in the comments section of the publication.
“Brave family. I congratulate and thank you personally and on behalf of the country that suffers,” wrote one user.
Another person said he imagined that the island's repressors would not let him back in, although they assured him that "one day he will be able to come and we will rebuild everything."
“Congratulations, a hug Ramón Velázquez, all worthy Cubans love you,” was the greeting of an Internet user.
For her part, activist Avana de la Torre expressed that “we need your daddy free, thinking and contributing to this frontal fight.”
Ramón Jesús Velázquez Toranzo was arrested in mid-March in the Sanctuary of El Cobre, whereHe had stood up with his family inviting Cubans to fight for human rights and the freedom of the island.
"They were taken against their will from the Sanctuary of El Cobre, where they were staying. They took my father by force, handcuffed and even in his underwear. State Security said they were arresting him for inciting the people," he denounced in that moment his daughter Rufina, who also indicated that he was taken to the repressive headquarters of the State Security,Marist Villa.
In demand of his freedom,two Cuban women, activists in pursuit of the release of political prisoners, sewed their mouths shutin front of the Archdiocese of Miami.
