In 2023, 7,397 applications were denied throughout the year, which means that, if this pace continues, 2024 could close with more than 16,000 denials, more than double the previous year. The data may be worrying for manyCubans residing in Spain who are carrying out their nationalization processes.

Vicente Marin, lawyer and director of the portalParainmigrantes.info, commented that unlike last year's encouraging figures, in 2024 "the tables have changed a little."

The high number of rejections could be due to an accumulation offiles that were paralyzed and that have finally been processed and denied. This occurs mainly for not complying with the requirement of good civic conduct and for notrespond to requirements on time of documents in the files.

That is the main reason for the archiving of the more than 3,000 applications for nationality by residence. Many applicants do not respond correctly or do not respond within the stipulated deadlines, and this has consequences on their procedures that can be disastrous.

It is very important forCubans established in Spain, look forlegal advice about their cases and stay informed about the status of their nationality by residence application files.

The Spanish Ministry of Justice also issued nine resolutions granting sentences. This reflects the efforts of those who, after appealing through a Contentious Administrative Appeal for Nationality, have managed to demonstrate compliance with the necessary requirements in court.

The Spanish government at the end of February extended the nationality application period until 2025 for theDemocratic Memory Law, also known as the "Grandchildren Law." This change gives more time to descendants of Spanish exiles to become citizens of the Iberian country.
