The Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás extended the reach of his fists outside the ring and invested part of his capital in an architectural project that beautifies - even more - the city of Miami: a new skyscraper.
Just one month away from the inauguration of the Aston Martin Residences, a 66-story residential tower (249 meters in height) located at 300 Biscayne Boulevard Way, the world champion shared images of the construction of a building quite similar, in which he is one of the investors and whose project promises to make an impact on the city of Florida.
"One of my biggest projects for the end of this decade, based on work, blood, and sacrifices," pointed out the former world professional champion on the social network Facebook, while encouraging "young fighters" to "capitalize on their money so that in the end all the sacrifice is not in vain."
"The money from boxing is not meant to live like a millionaire, unless you are a superstar," explained the Santiago native, while recalling how a few years ago (2016) he ventured to invest his savings in this property located near his residence.
As part of the modernization process of Downtown Miami, the Okan Tower (building name) will reach a height of 300 meters, feature 70 floors, and host the Hilton Miami Bayfront hotel, which will offer its guests all the amenities of a five-star hotel.
Inspired by the shape of tulips as a reflection of Turkish cultural heritage, the building is the result of a collaboration between Okan & Holdings Group and the architecture firm Behar Font & Partners, responsible for its distinctive design, which will position it as an aesthetic symbol and a testament to advances in engineering and innovation, according to the Smart Luxe website.
Amazed by the progress of the project, from when it was a model to the image it currently exhibits, showing clear signs of advancement, the lightweight boxer thanked Mayor Francis Suarez for his support, who handed him the keys to the city of Miami in September 2021.
At that time, he declared feeling proud of the honor that represented that tribute, as part of "the millions of Cubans who escaped from a dictatorship in search of freedom and a better life."
"Proud to know that it's not just about being a champion, because there are many champions, but for being an example in my community and above all for being a fighter and a man committed to the freedom of my country," he stated at that time.
The wave of majestic buildings promises to continue with the project of the German company Mercedes-Benz, which chose this city, the third with the highest number of high-rise buildings in the United States, to build its first skyscraper in the country. The skyscraper will consist of a 67-story mixed-use tower.
