Pánfilo, Chequera, and Isidoro coincidentally ran into Adam, an official from the United States Embassy in Havana, at a restaurant, and took the opportunity to find out which visas are processed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and which ones by the Consular Section.
This is the new episode of a collaboration between the characters from the popular TV show "Vivir del Cuento" and the diplomatic headquarters to provide an enjoyable explanation of the specificities and requirements to legally emigrate to that country.
In this Thursday's sketch, the diplomat explained that the USCIS office processes family reunification services (CFRC), while the Consular Section is in charge of immigrant visas such as IR1, IR2, IR5, F11, F22, and diversity visas (popularly known as the lottery).
"IR1 is the immigrant visa for the spouse of a US citizen, and IR2 is for children of US citizens," she stated.
The IR5 is for parents of U.S. citizens, the F21 is for spouses of permanent residents, and the F22 is for children of permanent residents.
The official promised that in the next meeting he will provide information about the documents that must be submitted for each application.
Last week, Adam explained to Pánfilo and his friends that the USCIS office handles humanitarian parole cases, parole beneficiaries, refugees, and asylees. On the other hand, migrant visa applications and family petitions are processed by the Consular Section office, which is part of the Department of State.
The campaign organized by the Embassy of the United States to explain the ways in which Cubans can legally access American soil has among its objectives to prevent illegal emigration either by sea or land.
"Migrate legally to the USA! Pánfilo, Chequera, and Isidoro cleared all their doubts about migration with 'someone very knowledgeable'", announced the embassy on its social networks.
