A black weekend is forecasted for Cubans, following the announcement on Friday by the Electric Union (UNE), in a scenario marked by the shutdown of the Felton thermoelectric plant due to a breakage.
In its daily report, the company announced power outages due to an almost 1,000 MW deficit during the peak demand hours of this day.
On Thursday, power outages due to generation capacity deficits lasted for 24 hours and this morning, the service had not been restored.
The peak impact occurred at 9:10 pm, coinciding with rush hour, and reached 1270 MW, a figure higher than the 1240 MW that had been forecasted.
This Friday, at 7:00 am, the availability of the national electrical system (SEN) was 1968 MW and the demand was 2480 MW, with a deficit of 542 MW. A maximum impact of 800 MW is estimated for noon.
For peak hours, an availability of 2298 MW and a maximum demand of 3200 MW are estimated, resulting in a deficit of 902 MW, therefore a disruption of 972 MW is forecasted.
At this time, five units of the Mariel, Santa Cruz, Rente, and Felton thermoelectric power plants are experiencing malfunctions. Other blocks of the Santa Cruz, Nuevitas, and Rente power plants are undergoing maintenance.
Additionally, 33 distributed generation plants are out of service due to lack of fuel, and 277 WW are affected by limitations in thermal generation.
On Thursday, the Granma Electric Company reported the shutdown of Unit 1 at the Lidio Ramón Pérez (Felton) thermal power plant due to a boiler malfunction.
The malfunction had a significant impact on the distribution of electrical energy, mainly in the eastern region, as it caused a frequency-triggered shutdown that affected line 5545, which supplies the circuits belonging to the municipality of Bartolomé Masó and the La Curva Substation.
With that scenario, the Electric Company of Granma notified its customers that there would be disruptions "outside the scheduled rotation schedule by blocks."
"The circuits will experience a disruption in the electrical service of six hours, and with an electrical service of three hours depending on the behavior and availability of the country's electrical generation," specified.
According to the content creator Emilio Rodríguez Pupo, quoted by the official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, the Felton workers started the "cooling process for corrections".
The work will require no less than three days, due to the cooling process of the boiler," the information specified.
