Young motorcyclist dies after being struck by police car in Santiago de Cuba

The young man who passed away was involved in an accident on Sunday night and, after undergoing surgical intervention twice, was unable to survive.


Elieser Emilio González Zayas, a 27-year-old motorcyclist, passed away on Monday after colliding with a police vehicle on Sunday night in Santiago de Cuba and undergoing two surgeries.

The communicator Yosmany Mayeta explained on his Facebook account that the family and friends of Emilio González Zayas informed him that the young man passed away on the afternoon of this Monday.

"We extend our deepest condolences to family, friends, and loved ones on behalf of our page," stated the independent journalist.

Mayeta reported on the night of this Sunday that the incident involving González's motorcycle and a police car occurred on the Cuabitas road. This locality, on the outskirts of the city, is where the young man resided.

The motorcyclist was speeding and, after the collision, was left lying in the street, according to eyewitnesses.

The police officer driving the patrol car appeared nervous and shaken, to the extent that bystanders had to step in to calm him down.

This Monday, an accident also took place in Santiago de Cuba, where a car encountered an incident on the road, necessitating the intervention of police, paramedics, and firefighters at the scene.

Reports on social media indicate that there may be fatalities in the incident; however, neither the authorities nor the state-run media have provided any information about what happened.

Also on Monday, the driver of a tow truck struck and killed a young man crossing the street at the intersection of 100 and 51 in Marianao, Havana, according to preliminary reports.

In the tragic traffic accident, the victim was crushed by the wheels of a heavy vehicle, as shown in the photos posted by the communicator Mayeta on Facebook. Although pixelated, the images are striking in their harshness.
