A firefighter was hospitalized without life-threatening injuries after suffering heat stroke during the fire that occurred on Saturday morning in the Girón building in Havana.
Yanet Hernández Pérez, the governor of the capital, revealed that together with the firefighter, identified as Harold Rodríguez Ávila, six other people were hospitalized. "All of them have been discharged," she assured.
The official also added that 190 people were evacuated, including 17 minors and four disabled individuals, to centers near the burned building or to neighboring houses.
The Municipal Administration Council of Plaza de la Revolución stated that those evacuated at site 5 of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) were "those who do not require transfer to a healthcare facility, minors, and 4 elderly adults."
Meanwhile, at the Hotel Grand Aston, 190 neighbors, 8 children, and 2 disabled individuals are being assisted.
Hernández Pérez, on his part, stated that "the plans prepared for these circumstances have been put into action, as well as the committees to assist the families and the staff working at the site."
The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, as well as the head of Civil Defense, Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, and other leaders, attended the scene of the fire.
The fire broke out on Saturday morning at the Girón Building, located at Malecón and F. The smoke was visible from several points in Havana.
Up to now, authorities have only reported that the fire occurred in the storage room on the 5th floor, without yet disclosing the causes of the incident.
The Girón building has a total of 132 apartments, in which 600 neighbors live, according to the Municipal Administration Council of Plaza de la Revolución.
