The family members of a 76-year-old Cuban man, who is in desperate need of hernia surgery in Cienfuegos, have requested help through social media.

In a message posted on Facebook, Yoana Brook explains that the local hospital does not have the necessary resources for the surgery. However, the hernia is causing intense pain to the patient, and they cannot continue waiting for this surgery.

The family clarified that they are not asking for money, but specific medical supplies that were indicated by the hospital doctor.

They were given a list, handwritten on a piece of paper, indicating the need to "obtain" the medications and supplies in order to have surgery.

  • Hydrocortisone 10 bb
  • Rocephin 14 IV
  • Maya Quirúrgica 15 x 15
  • Nylon 0 (Suture 10 packages)
  • Green Exchange - 2
  • Levine Probe - 1
  • Urinary catheter (14-16)

The scarcity situation in Cuba has reached critical levels, as admitted by the President Miguel Díaz-Canel himself, who announced in 2023 that the lack of medicines and medical supplies in the country will persist.

The pharmacies on the island are out of stock, and patients, like this elderly man, must turn to the black market to obtain what they need, which is criminal and scandalous, especially in a country that usually presents itself as an international medical powerhouse while keeping its people in absolute precariousness.

To collaborate with the case of this Cuban elderly person, the family provided the following contact phone number: 58988238.
