The Cuban government affirms that the resources have arrived to set up 92 photovoltaic parks.

The Cuban regime reported this Tuesday that they already have the resources to set up 92 photovoltaic parks, as part of the new energy generation sources announced by the authorities amid the crisis in the country.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, reported that a program for the construction of 92 photovoltaic parks is being implemented in the country, and "the resources to supply them are arriving."

"We have the fuel in Cuba for these works and progress is being made on the projects," said the official, quoted by Cubadebate, whose investment process will be controlled by the electric company.

According to de la O Levy, work is already underway on the civil construction of the first 19 parks, after 71 containers with resources arrived in the country.

"There has been a significant increase in the prices of shipping companies that transport containers, but so far there are no delays in payments," he emphasized.

He also said that nine photovoltaic parks (22 MW) are currently under construction, and supplies are expected to arrive by the end of 2024.

Work is also being done at the Herradura 1 wind farm and at 22 other parks that could generate 120 MW, thanks to a donation from China.

The first stage involves the installation of 35 MW in seven parks, whose resources will arrive in the country before the end of 2024, the official detailed.

The Cuban regime ensures that by the beginning of next year it will have "the first 1,000 MW of generation from renewable sources", but "the situation will not be completely resolved".

The minister also stated that changing a country's energy matrix involves a complete transformation, even "cultural," and that since 2005, when the first wind farms were installed in Gibara, a partnership with universities was initiated to address wind power projection in Cuba.

Regarding the electrification of isolated homes from the national electrical system using renewable energy sources, it was pointed out that currently 4,256 systems have partial failures, allowing service only during the day," the media mentioned.

Another 1,150 have total breakdowns, but the country will receive 5,000 batteries in July, he pointed out.

Last March, the Cuban government announced the installation of more than 90 photovoltaic solar parks by 2028, amidst an energy crisis that has disrupted daily life in the country.

On that occasion, he stated that photovoltaic solar parks could produce 2,000 megawatts of power by 2028.

In June, three photovoltaic parks were inaugurated, donated by the China Agency for International Development Cooperation.

Authorities insisted on the promise to add 1,000 MW to the Cuban energy matrix, through upcoming investments in photovoltaic parks. However, these projections face the harsh reality of an obsolete and poorly managed system, while the country continues to experience long blackouts of up to 12 hours daily.
