The Electrical Union (UNE) of Cuba announced the synchronization of the 4.4 MW "La Criolla" photovoltaic park, located in Villa Clara, to the national system.
"New investment, Chinese donation that on average saves five tons of fuel," the entity boasted on its wall of Facebook.
Despite the company's enthusiasm, the publication was filled with more than 200 comments from Cubans fed up with the energy crisis, enduring blackouts of up to 20 hours.
"A lot of photovoltaic park and given away, as the Cuban government likes, but we continue to suffer long hours of blackout, without being able to sleep and with the stress of the little food we have spoiling," said a woman.
"That's great, we need 240 more so we don't have a blackout, and they give them to us," said an emigre ironically.
"A light (from a cocuyo) at the end of the tunnel. Of those, we need many, to be able to sleep well and restore our body and nervous system, which is only repaired at night, to be able to attend our jobs the next day , schools...", pointed out a person from Sancti Spiritus.
"Total, why! If this is getting worse every day. The blackouts in Cienfuegos have nothing to do with planning. No more explanations and publications that solve nothing," questioned a doctor.
"And where is the power? Because the blackouts in Caibarién only increase in number and intensity, circuit 3, we have been without power for three nights at dawn. DPEPDPE, until when Cubans," asked a woman.
The Complaints from Cubans fill social networks these days, where the frequent and prolonged daily blackouts are reported and the Electrical Union is denounced for the abuse towards the population.
Especially strong are the protests in some towns in the country that suffer power outages of up to 16 or more hours, where the lack of electricity causes the scarce food to spoil, in an environment marked by intense heat, mosquitoes and the impossibility to sleep well.
The worst thing is that the situation will not improve.
Last week, the UNE indicated that Blackouts will increase during the month of June due to the increase in maintenance work at several thermoelectric plants.
"As has been reported in these months from January to June, maintenance activities at thermal, energy and distributed generation plants increase with the purpose of reaching the months of greatest electricity consumption and demand, which are July and August, months in addition, the rest of the population," explained the entity.
The Union stated that it will comply with "the maintenance plan until the last days of June" in order to minimize the effects in the summer.
However, in July and August there will also be blackouts "if there are some unforeseen outages of generation units."
