Neighbors in the city of Hialeah reported in outrage the theft of pets by a man they nicknamed "The Spider-Man."
Specifically, the criminal, tall, young, and with fair skin, was captured by the surveillance cameras of a building he skillfully climbed to steal a birdcage that was on the second-floor balcony.
Miriam Cruz, the owner of the birds, expressed her consternation and sadness upon arriving home and discovering the loss of her pets, which had been part of her family for almost two years: "Thank goodness I wasn't there because if I saw that man jumping onto my balcony I would have a heart attack," she stated to Telemundo 51.
"It's not fair for someone to do this. Those birds have enormous sentimental value for me," Cruz commented, visibly indignant.
The incident has generated fear among the neighbors, who checked their security cameras and balconies, worried about the safety of their own pets.
"I was quite scared because sometimes we leave our little dog outside. If a man is capable of taking some birds, he is capable of anything," said a young woman identified as María.
The security footage shows the subject riding down the street on a motorcycle, entering the parking lot, and stopping right underneath Cruz's apartment. After observing his target, he walked while using his phone and began to climb the building structure like an expert climber, whose skill earned him the nickname "The Spiderman of Hialeah."
"I saw him climbing as if nothing was happening, he climbs over a fence, goes up to the second floor, and enters the neighbor's balcony to take the birds," Maria recounts.
After committing the theft, the man came down, got on the motorcycle, and fled the scene with the animal cage in his left hand.
The residents of the building, located in the most Hispanic city in the United States, are demanding that the thief return María's birds.
