A person from Guantánamo residing in Havana was killed on Tuesday night during the festivities leading up to the San Joaquín 2024 Carnival, which will be celebrated from August 15 to 18 in Guantánamo.
Cubanet reported that the victim, known as "Negrón," was stabbed by a former inmate identified as "Pito" on Carlos Manuel Street, at the corner of Pinto, while participating in the popular celebrations.
Witnesses reported that "Negrón" accidentally bumped into "Pito" and apologized for the collision, but the man refused to forgive him and stabbed him in the lung.
The aggressor, under the effects of alcohol and opioids, attacked the victim from behind, and two other individuals joined in the assault.
The carnival had not officially begun, but the festive atmosphere had already attracted many people to the city. Some residents of Guantánamo believe that the police presence to control the celebrations is very minimal, which leads to criminals being out of control.
This incident occurs amid a growing wave of violence in Cuba, with numerous cases of murders reported on social media in recent weeks.
