A Cuban working as a cleaning employee at Miami International Airport (MIA) was arrested for stealing two Rolex watches from a passenger.
Alberto Rabanal, a 57-year-old concierge, was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of grand theft for stealing two Rolex watches valued at approximately $60,000 from a traveler.
The events occurred on August 22nd.
According to America TeVe, the victim had arrived at the airport terminal from Lisbon, Portugal. After passing through customs, while on the second level of Terminal J waiting for a shared transportation service, he left an unattended duty-free bag for a few minutes, where the watches were.
Rabanal, who was working for a company contracted to clean the airport, was caught on security cameras when he picked up the bag and, after searching it, pulled out a sweater first and then a black case that contained the Rolexes.
"Once this is done, put the sweater back in the bag and place the bag inside a regular trash bag. Then throw the bag in the trash," the arrest report describes, as cited by Local 10.
The Miami-Dade Police went to Rabanal's house, on the 1200 block of Northwest 103rd Street. He admitted to committing the robbery and showed them the watches, which were on the dresser in his room. He was arrested and taken to jail.
On Tuesday, he appeared before the criminal court, where a bail of $7,500 was set. By Wednesday afternoon, he was no longer listed in the county jail records.
