Maykel Osorbo requests to speak with the political police in prison.

The Cuban rapper and political prisoner Maykel Castillo Pérez, known as "El Osorbo," sent a message in which he requests to speak with the political police while serving his sentence in the maximum-security prison "Kilo 5 y Medio," located in Pinar del Río.

Through the Facebook profile "Maykel Osorbo 349," the artist requested the presence of the authorities, although the reasons are unknown, and a comment from the person managing the account confirms that nothing more is known about it.

In the month of August, the artist was ill, suffering from fever and headaches, although it could not be confirmed whether it was dengue or another virus due to the limitations in the penitentiary center.

The situation in the prison is critical, exacerbated by an increase in cases of dengue and Oropouche fever in Cuba.

The rapper, winner of two Latin Grammy Awards for the song "Patria y Vida," was sentenced in 2022 to nine years in prison on charges of contempt, assault, public disorder, and defamation.

In May, international organizations and the rapper's colleagues honored the third year of his imprisonment.

The organization Amnesty International for the Americas continues to demand that the Díaz-Canel government immediately and unconditionally release Osorbo, who was detained in 2021.

Last April, Osorbo was brutally beaten in prison to the point that he almost lost an ear, detailed the independent media El Estornudo.

In an article signed by Cuban writer Carlos Manuel Álvarez, titled "Maykel Osorbo: 'They have to kill me face to face,'" details of the incident that occurred on April 18 in the maximum-security prison of Kilo 5 and a Half in Pinar del Río are revealed.

The aggression occurred during breakfast hours, when several inmates protested the food shortage in the prison after there was not enough bread, the text states.

In 2022, "Osorbo" stated from prison that he did not rule out the possibility of exile to gain his freedom; however, he continues to serve his sentence despite the requests of several international organizations.
