Several Cubans mobilized to get a wheelchair for actor Jorge Losada, who needs it to move around but cannot afford it.
From the United States, the administrator of the Fishing in Miami project, who organizes donations for those in need in Cuba, reported on Facebook that he has a wheelchair available for the artist.
"If there is any family member or friend here who knows about him, please write to me at (786) 685-9365," he said.
Also in Miami, actor Erich Concepción secured a chair and stated that he wants to raise funds from the exiled community to bring essential food and medications for the elderly to Losada.
"Anti-decubitus creams, vitamins, and more. I have a few days to achieve it. Help me with that," he asked on Facebook.
This Sunday, Jorge Losada sent a message to his friends and followers to thank them for all the expressions of solidarity he has received since his case became known.
"Thank you very much for the demonstrations of that immense affection that an artist needs to be able to live (...). I have received hundreds of calls and messages where people have expressed concern for my health and my needs, I can only humbly say thank you..." he expressed.
The message was shared on the Facebook profile of Luis Lacosta, art director at ICAIC, who on Saturday requested help to buy a wheelchair for his friend.
Lacosta specified that he reached out to the Council of Performing Arts of the Ministry of Culture and to the UNEAC, and they responded that they had none, which shows the lack of attention from the authorities in the sector to the artists.
"Here, the situation is not easy at all, even with the famous actors," he emphasized.
Recently, Jorge Losada has experienced various health issues.
In April, he had to be hospitalized at the Manuel Fajardo hospital in Havana due to various health issues.
In February 2021, he underwent surgery and as a result of the surgery, he ended up with severe anemia. Due to the shortage of medicines in Cuba, Lacosta turned to the Internet to obtain the necessary drugs.
"It is facing problems, a severe anemia has been detected despite eating daily; it seems that its body has some issues, and it has been prescribed Inferón and Trofin or another medication to help clear the anemia," he detailed then.
Immediately, several people showed solidarity and proposed ideas to promptly deliver the medicines.
Losada, a prestigious actor in film, theater, and television, recovered and in 2023 participated in the Cuban telenovela Renacer, an experience he described as "unique."
"Because I’m a gossip and in real life I’m not, but in the telenovela I talk badly about everyone and I don’t even know why," he explained in an interview with actor Ulises González for Cubaactores.
"And perhaps this will be my last appearance and that I give that bad... image," he added in a heartfelt video.
