More than 75,000 families in Pinar del Río are without electricity this Thursday following the passage of Hurricane Helene.

According to journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, there are specifically 75,544 customers from all municipalities in the province who do not have service at this moment.

"In the city, many of the circuits have gone down due to the strong winds that persist," he added on his Facebook wall.

Yamile Ramos Cordero, first secretary of the Party in the territory, revealed that brigades from Havana, Mayabeque, and Cienfuegos will arrive in the coming hours to work on the recovery.

"Today’s dawn was more complex than the previous one. The province recorded gusts of up to 90 km/h. It rains intermittently but with intensity in several communities," he said.

"It is still raining right now and with winds, all at intervals, but it is felt," he specified.

The leader assures that the main impacts are concentrated in agriculture and the electric sector. She made no mention of landslides or damage to homes, which usually take the worst toll during weather events due to their severe deterioration.

Previously, the Electric Company of Pinar del Río announced that the damage caused by Hurricane Helene will not be repaired until the phenomenon has passed.

Since the early hours of this Wednesday, the municipalities of San Juan and Martínez, Guane, Mantua, Sandino, and Minas de Matahambre have been without electricity.

Despite this, the entity pointed out that when a hydrometeorological event occurs, it is directed that if the circuits fail, they do not reopen until the phenomenon has passed.

"Although you may think that nothing happened in your area, somewhere along the line there are cables and poles on the ground, which, when energized, can cause an accident or death to a person," the note specified.

At the closing of this information, there are reports of outages in the line that supplies the municipality of Sandino, which also affects the water supply in the area.

Manipulations are being carried out to restore the service in Guane, although the town of Cortés will likely not receive electricity in the short term.

Localities such as Minas, Santa Lucía, and Pons already have electricity, but interruptions are reported in other areas, including Guanito and San Diego. Of the 438 interruptions in the province, 144 are recorded in the main municipality.
