A poster with the phrases "Down with the Government" and "No more blackouts" appeared on a central street in the city of Santiago de Cuba, denouncing the situation of the constant power outages affecting the population.

The photo of the poster was shared on social media by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, who noted on his Facebook account: "The people of Santiago are ready!", referring to the growing discontent among the residents of the eastern city.

The banner remained visible for several hours before being removed by the authorities. A user on social media clarified that the message was painted on Calle 10, in the Santa Bárbara neighborhood, a very central area.

"How long will the abuse against the people of Santiago continue?" a user asked on Facebook. He added: "We are ready for anything, down with it!"

These messages reflect the accumulated frustration over the ongoing disruptions to the electricity service in the province, one of the hardest hit by power outages in Cuba.

The incident has generated a stir on social media. It reflects the growing discontent among the population regarding the energy crisis in Cuba, exacerbated by the wrong economic and political decisions of the regime.

In September 2024, power outages worsened due to the severe electricity generation deficit in the country.

On September 19, the Electric Company of Santiago de Cuba announced an increase in power outages, although it denied rumors circulating on social media about a possible general blackout.

Despite scheduling service interruption times, some circuits experienced longer cuts than expected, worsening the situation for the residents of Santiago.

On September 25, the Electric Union reported that blackouts persisted in Santiago de Cuba and other provinces due to the breakdown of two units at the Renté thermoelectric plant and the lack of fuel in the mobile generator groups.

The situation with the blackouts will not have an immediate solution, and the people are tired of waiting for the regime's promises to be fulfilled.
