As happens every day for months, this Thursday Cubans will experience a significant amount of blackouts, with special "severity" during peak hours, when an impact of 835 MW is expected.
The situation is not expected to be favorable on a day when two thermoelectric units are out of service due to breakdowns and another one is under maintenance, in addition to the damages caused by Hurricane Helene in the west and center of the country.
According to the report from the Electric Union (UNE), on Wednesday the service was affected due to a deficit in generation capacity for 24 hours and could not be restored until 2:00 AM. The maximum impact was 1001 MW, which is 151 MW more than the initial forecast.
"Additionally, 125 MW were affected due to failures in the distribution network caused by bad weather conditions (Pinar del Río: 21 MW, Artemisa: 37 MW, Havana: 21 MW, Mayabeque: 3 MW, Matanzas: 13 MW, Villa Clara: 8 MW, Cienfuegos: 12 MW, and Sancti Spíritus: 10 MW)," the note details.
On the other hand, 40 distributed generation plants are out of operation due to a lack of fuel, in addition to the barge in Santiago de Cuba, engines in the fuel at Mariel, the barge in Melones, the barge in Mariel, and the barge in Regla, for a total of 522 MW, 213 MW in distributed groups and 309 MW in the barges.
In addition, there are limitations in thermal generation on the order of 537 MW.
