The former Cuban spy Gerardo Hernández Nordelo sent congratulations to the singer Arnaldo Rodríguez, whom he described as a "talented patriot."
The coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) shared a photo of both of them together on his Twitter account, along with a congratulatory message to the musician for his name day.
"Today is the birthday of this talented patriot, whom his large Cederista family wishes many congratulations," he wrote.
Arnaldo is a strong defender of the Castro regime, which has helped him earn various accolades.
It is not surprising that he is a personal friend of Gerardo, whom he publicly calls his brother, and that he even offers to perform with his group El Talismán at the activities organized by the former leader of the failed Red Avispa.
"Brother Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, you have a wonderful family. As the singing poet says, 'only love begets wonder,'" wrote the singer-songwriter in 2022 on Twitter, along with a photo of himself with the spy, his wife, and children.
For his part, Gerardo praised Arnaldo, referring to him as an artist "increasingly committed to his people."
The leader enjoys being close to the artists who admire the government.
Last June, he expressed how much he admires the singer and sonero Cándido Fabré, who in his opinion "doesn't eat fear."
His statements came days after Fabré, known for his fervent support of the regime and the ideals of Fidel Castro, sparked controversy with his views on blackouts in Cuba.
