Jorge Junior, leader of Los 4, reacted strongly against the use of El Taiger's image in the music video for "Papita frita," a track featuring Lenier, Tekashi 6ix9ine, and Oniel Bebeshito, which was recently released.
In a live stream on social media, where he stated that they were still "demanding justice for El Taiger," Jorge Junior made his frustration clear and explained that, although he has been busy with legal proceedings, he could not ignore what happened. "I wasn't very aware of many things regarding this mess with my cousin, but thank God everything is going legally well, and everything should go as it should."
"Whenever one is no longer alive, the ABC always comes; the ABC is those people who will always love you, who cry for you, there are those who are preparing for their inheritance, and there is the one who takes advantage, right? And one always has to be prepared and know how to deal with all those things," he noted before moving on to explain and refer directly to the music video for "Papita frita," where they included an image of his cousin El Taiger.
"I just called Lenier a little while ago because I get along with Lenier, and I asked him about this song they just released. They released a song called 'Papita frita', but they put my cousin's photo on the back. My brother, my cousin hasn't even been gone for a week yet, you know. My cousin is still fresh, man. You understand, and everything is quick to see what we can get out of it, to see what we can do, to make the most of the time," he said in his reflection.
Jorge was clear that he considered this action a lack of respect: "Without wanting to, you're being disrespectful, brother, let's see if you understand what I'm explaining." He also issued a direct warning to one of those involved in the production: “Ferrante, you’re in Cuba, my brother, our paths are crossing again. I'm going to give you these days that I'm in Miami to rethink this and get it removed, because when I arrive in Cuba, I'm coming for you, so find the best. Find the best, because all this anger I have inside and the revenge I couldn't take against my cousin, I'm going to take it out on you.”
Jorge Junior made it clear that he is not looking for material benefits from his cousin's death: “I have my career, I have my life set, which is Los 4. I had to pause the Los 4 machine for a moment to be able to deal with this about my cousin who is alone.” He also said, "I don’t need anything from my cousin. Everything that will be done will be done legally with the lawyers and will go where it needs to go legally. What I don't like are the opportunists, the know-it-alls, who think they know everything and in the end know nothing."
Finally, he concluded his message by asking his colleagues in the genre to respect the memory of his cousin: "I kindly ask that for every step you take regarding José Manuel Carvajal, you let me know, compadre, and we will discuss it. And if that’s the case, we’ll go for it, but don’t do anything adrift that might make us think poorly or do something wrong, because what I don’t want is disunity. What I want is to keep the celebration in peace."
Reactions were quick to appear. Followers of Jorge Junior and El Taiger were divided between those who supported their statements and those who defended the use of the image of the deceased artist as a form of homage and tribute.
“Jorge didn't feel that way either, because those people who appeared in the video truly cared about him. El Bebeshito really cared about him, Lenier too, and if they did that, it wasn't with any objective, just because that’s what El Taiger would want, for the best in the world not to stop”; “They only used José's image to pay tribute from my point of view, since we all know that this topic is going to become a global trend”; “Understand that it’s a tribute. You're going to kill José's legacy; everyone is going to measure themselves when doing something related to him. I’m a huge fan of José, I think what you’re doing is wrong”; "Tekashi, Lenier don’t need to gain fame or profit, it was just a tribute; if it’s on Tekashi’s channel, his music becomes international"; "If there’s anyone who doesn’t need numbers, it’s those three. I understand your pain, but I think you went too far"; "Lenier and Oniel got along very well with José, sue that guy Marcel who wants to hold a concert in memory of El Taiger charging tickets, please the video of Papita Frita has nothing to do with it, but they wanted to remember him"; I don’t think the participants did it with bad intentions, but honestly, their image has nothing to do with the song. They could have mentioned it at the end of the video to pay tribute, Ferrante shouldn’t have allowed it," some said.
Others, on the other hand, agreed with Jorge Junior's stance. “I can't believe that while we were still mourning El Taiger, who was supposed to be his friend, they released a new song. What a huge lack of respect! Where is the consideration, the empathy? This is not friendship!” “Sue them all, what does 'Papita frita' have to do with El Taiger's memory?” “They are not respecting anyone's pain.” “Many are monetizing this issue. How long will this lack of respect continue?” "Absolutely right, don't let them use El Taiger's image to promote their songs, what a lack of respect." The music video for "Papita frita" has already gathered more than 860 thousand views on YouTube.
