Tragedy in San Antonio del Sur: Husband and father of hurricane Oscar victims reportedly made a drastic decision.

“Then he tells me that the river kept rising and that she told him she didn’t know how to swim. And well, she drowned along with the girl,” recounted the young man who offered his testimony and revealed the terrible decision that the father and husband of the victims must have made.

The passage of Hurricane Oscar through Guantánamo left painful stories that continue to emerge, such as the tragedy of Liz Anyi Elías Labañino, the five-year-old girl who died along with her mother, Iriannis Labañino Domínguez, in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur.

A new revelation regarding this case shed light on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the little girl and her mother, known as "Chicha," as well as the drastic decision that the husband and father of the deceased is said to have made.

A video shared by a user identified on Facebook as Luis ViralInfluencer Suarez (which was later removed from his profile) captured the testimony of a neighbor from San Antonio del Sur, who claimed that Chicha's husband and Liz Anyi's father took his own life due to the overwhelming sadness and pain caused by the deaths of his loved ones.

Luis ViralInfluencer Suarez, a Cuban from Guantánamo living abroad, according to América TeVe, is visiting the island to try to help his people in that province. From there, he has posted several videos featuring testimonies from affected neighbors and touching stories of bravery and solidarity.

One of the testimonies collected (now deleted from his profile) was from a young man who confirmed that little Liz Anyi and her mother drowned in the floods, a detail that the authorities have not reported. The girl's father managed to survive, but overwhelmed by tragedy, he is said to have made the decision to take his own life.

"I went to the hospital looking for my mom, and there was nobody there. I found a man crying; his wife and little girl had drowned: Chichi, from the Cave of Smoke. He told me that the river kept rising and that she had told him she couldn't swim. And well, she drowned along with the girl," reported the young man who offered his testimony.

The painful account added another tragic episode when, according to the young man interviewed by Luis ViralInfluencer Suarez, Liz Anyi's father and husband of La Chicha decided to take his own life. “He almost drowned... Then, two days later, he hanged himself. He couldn't bear the pain,” the young man said.

The disappearance of the video from the mentioned Facebook profile adds further mystery to the particular story of the Elías Labañino family, regarding which the authorities have not disclosed any additional details.

Silence also weighs heavily on the other five deceased individuals, whose identities have been revealed, but the circumstances of their deaths remain a secret.

In addition to the mother and her five-year-old daughter, Cuban authorities identified among the deceased Francisco Colombia Matos (92 years old), Esmeraldo Noa Fiffe (82), Antolino Areas Domínguez (84), and Alexander Saben Matos (42).

The identity of the seventh deceased has not been revealed at this time.

On social media, some users have criticized local authorities for not warning residents in dangerous areas. There are also numerous posts claiming that the number of fatalities could be higher than the officially reported figures.
