The mother of former Cuban baseball player Pedro Luis Lazo, who is currently part of the coaching staff for the national baseball team, Emilia Iglesias Moreno, passed away on Saturday in Pinar del Río.
Iglesias Moreno was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Abel Santamaría Provincial Clinical Surgical Hospital, suffering from a serious illness, reported Tele Pinar and Radio Guamá journalist Osbel Benítez Polo.
Lazo is currently in South Korea, where the Cuban baseball team is holding a series of preparatory matches in preparation for the upcoming Premier 12 tournament, which will take place in November.
The funeral for Lazo's mother is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Agapito cemetery in Pinar del Río, following a wake at her home on km 6 of the road to San Juan and Martínez.
The management of the Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER) in Pinar del Río arranged a bus for those who wished to accompany Lazo's family.
"On behalf of the entire sports movement and baseball fans, we extend our deepest condolences to your families and friends," concludes the statement.
Last month, another renowned baseball player from Pinar del Río, Omar Linares, also suffered the loss of his mother, Francisca Izquierdo.
Izquierdo, 86 years old, was suffering from an acute pulmonary respiratory disease.
