The police are searching for a driver involved in an alleged hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a Cuban in Redland, in Miami-Dade County.

The victim, identified as Alexis Muñoz, was a 46-year-old man, married and the father of three children, who had recently immigrated to Florida.

The tragic incident occurred early on Monday when Muñoz, who was commuting to work on a scooter, was struck by a vehicle that subsequently fled the scene.

According to the police, as reported by Telemundo 51, the vehicle involved first crashed into a house at the intersection of 232nd Street and 194th Avenue in the southwest, before hitting the man at 208th Street and the same avenue, fleeing the scene immediately afterward.

Yaicel Santana Muñoz, the victim's cousin, stated that Alexis was on his way to work at the time of the accident.

As of the closure of this report, no further details have emerged regarding the vehicle that the police are reportedly seeking in connection with the hit-and-run.

In Florida, the penalties for leaving the scene of an accident that has caused death or serious bodily injury are severe.

The offense can be classified as a second-degree felony, which carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison or probation, as well as a fine of $10,000.

Beyond human sensitivity, which always encourages us to assist those in need, legally, anyone involved in an accident must remain at the scene, ensure that all drivers and passengers are okay, and promptly call the police.
