The accident occurred on the night of this Sunday at the intersection of East Eighth Avenue and 47th Street. Hialeah Police units arrived at the scene after the incident.

According to the investigators, a driver of a dark-colored SUV was heading south on East Eighth Avenue when he struck and killed two pedestrians crossing the street.

The driver did not stop after the impact and left the scene.

Both victims - whose identities have not been disclosed so far - were declared dead at the scene of the accident, according to local press reports.

For several hours, authorities closed East Eighth Avenue between 46th and 49th Streets, advising drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

The detectives are continuing to investigate the case, but they have not provided any more information.
