This Cuban was surprised to see how much she had spent at Costco on a food purchase. Through the TikTok account @lafamiliatorres1, she shared a grocery haul that left her followers in shock.
"What is this, Tato? What is this? This is what $170 in groceries looks like," the woman says before listing the items she purchased for that amount: "bread, more bread, a lettuce, raspberries, grapes, three packs of strawberries, pickles, olives, salt and brown sugar that I ran out of, some rolls for salad, coffee, a bottle of Margarita, a rack of ribs, and a tray of churrasco." She also adds that her husband had to go get "yucca and beer," and comments with resignation, "There goes another 100 pesos. That was $170, my friend. Where are we going to end up?"
For her, stores like Sam's or Costco are the best option these days: "I would much rather shop at Sam's, Costco, and those places because you buy just a few items, and it still costs you the same $170. I don't know about you," she concludes.
The video quickly filled with comments from followers sharing their experiences and frustrations with prices. "And don't go to Publix, you'll spend 250 laughing your head off," one user commented; another from Spain expressed surprise: "With that money, I buy food for the month in Spain," to which someone else replied, "Where? At Mercadona, 130 for 10 days. Tell me where, pleeeease!"
Others took the opportunity to compare their experiences in other countries: "Here in France, 300 euros just for food in a month"; "In Canada, it's much more expensive"; "Here in Germany, I wouldn't even dare to tell you, it's a nightmare!" Amid the debate, some wondered if the economic situation would improve soon. "We're all in the same boat," summarized one user; another added, "Food is incredibly expensive."
The most critical and resigned comments were not absent. "By the middle of the week, there's nothing," lamented a follower. Another complained, "That's how I feel, fed up with this spending." But not everyone viewed it so bleakly; some joked, "It wasn't that bad for you"; "It's cheap, don't mess around."
Some even pointed out that with Donald Trump's return, the situation could improve. "Now with Trump, they'll be able to fill two shopping carts for just $50," one person claimed, to which @lafamiliatorres1 replied, "Well, he's the only one who has done something."
