A Cuban citizen in his forties was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison in Uruguay for multiple offenses, including aggravated sexual abuse, domestic violence, personal injuries, and ammunition trafficking.
Once his sentence has been served, the man - whose identity has not been disclosed - will be deported to Cuba in accordance with the Migration Law of the South American country.
Crimes committed and modus operandi
The sentence originated from an investigation conducted by prosecutor Sandra Fleitas in Ciudad de la Costa, Canelones department.
In statements to the Telenoche channel, Costa stated that the Cuban—whom he described as a boxer—used his physical strength to terrorize his victims.
According to the investigations, the accused used social media as the primary tool to contact his victims, women of similar age residing in the areas of Las Piedras, Pando, and Ciudad de la Costa.
The man presented himself as an honest worker, dedicated to mechanics and the buying and selling of cars.
However, after gaining the trust of his victims and establishing romantic relationships, he committed abuses and acts of violence, as revealed by the local Uruguayan press.
The criminal pattern of the convicted individual was discovered thanks to a report from one of his victims in January 2023.
That report prompted two other women to share similar experiences, allowing Uruguayan authorities to build a strong case.
The sentence was delivered through a summary trial, a procedure that requires the defendant to admit their guilt in exchange for a more streamlined process.
This mechanism allowed for a clear and effective sentencing for aggravated sexual abuse, domestic violence, personal injury, and trafficking of ammunition.
The trafficking of ammunition, a serious offense under Uruguayan law, was crucial for the application of Article 47 of Law 18.250 on Migration, which governs the expulsion of foreigners who have committed intentional crimes and received prison sentences.

Expulsion and legal process
The deportation order for the convicted individual will be executed at the end of their sentence, under the supervision of a enforcement judge.
According to Law 18.250, foreigners who commit crimes related to arms trafficking, human trafficking, or drug trafficking, among others, are deemed unfit to remain in the country.
Although this regulation is typically applied in cases of drug trafficking, the trafficking of ammunition allowed for the extension of this measure to the convicted Cuban.
