Journalist Carlos Herrera Rodríguez shared striking images on social media this Thursday that reflect the profound disrespect towards loved ones at the Colón Cemetery in Havana.
“They cut down the trees and threw them on top of the graves,” Herrera reported while sharing on Facebook the poignant images that highlight the neglect prevailing in that cemetery.
"If there is no respect for the living, what respect can there be for the dead!" noted the journalist.
The photographs show that, given the brownish tone of the leaves, the logging must have occurred several days ago, indicating that the problem is not recent and has been neglected for some time.
This is not the first time that images highlighting the state of neglect prevailing in Havana's most important necropolis have circulated on social media.
Recently, Facebook user Beatriz Alonso revealed the deplorable condition of the Pantheon of Catalina Lasa and Juan Pedro Baró in Colón Cemetery, Havana.
The shared images show the damage caused by neglect and vandalism, which have severely affected this emblematic mausoleum. The situation has reached such a critical point that, according to Alonso, "the remains of Catalina and Juan Pedro have been moved to the Pantheon of Emigrants."
At the beginning of the year, a Cuban documented the existence of a trench filled with human bones, exposed to the elements, in the Colón Cemetery.
The user Tazmania Cubano shared a photo on the social network X, showcasing the unpleasant discovery he made recently while visiting the largest cemetery in Cuba.
