The revelation of Ana de Armas's romance with Manuel Anido Cuesta, son of Lis Cuesta and 'advisor' to Díaz-Canel, has become one of the most discussed topics among Cubans on social media.
Hola's exclusive, which confirmed the relationship with photos of both strolling through Madrid, sparked intense controversy and criticism of the Cuban actress.
Among the many reactions, there is a video from TikTok user Claudia Amanda (@claudiaamandaaa). “I don’t know why they are surprised about Ana de Armas. Ana de Armas has never projected herself against the dictatorship,” she stated, also commenting on the actress's silence regarding the situation on the island: “She could have made a video, she could have used her platforms and been the voice for all the people who are being killed in Cuba, and she has never cared.”
The video generated hundreds of comments reflecting an intense debate. Among those who supported Claudia's position, one user remarked, "Not even when they arrested her brother." Another wrote, "She has always been part of the dictatorship, this doesn’t surprise anyone." Some were more critical: "She is an instrument of the dictatorship that they need to promote tourism"; "That is called treason to the homeland, and one day she will be judged for it."
However, there were not lacking defenders of Ana de Armas. One user commented, “Is it mandatory for an artist to speak out about the dictatorship? She doesn't want to, and that's it!” Another added, “Why this bad habit of demanding from others as if we were judges?” Some even deemed it wise for the actress to stay uninvolved: “The best thing she can do is to stay out of politics.”
The revelation of her relationship with Díaz-Canel's stepson and advisor, confirmed by Hola, has reignited criticism of Ana de Armas that has been lingering for some time. Among these critiques are her participation in Red Avispa and her trips to Cuba, which some argue demonstrate a lack of concern for the issues facing the island and an indifference towards the struggles of her fellow countrymen.
