Cuban presenter Carlos Otero has generated a flood of comments on social media after sharing a sarcastic meme on his Instagram account, alluding to the highly publicized romance between Cuban actress Ana de Armas and Manuel Anido Cuesta, the son of Lis Cuesta, the First Lady of Cuba, and the stepson and advisor of Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The controversial montage depicts Ana de Armas with her face superimposed on the body of a Cuban police officer, posing next to overflowing garbage bins on a rundown street, an image that represents a common scene in Cuban reality.

The text accompanying the post, "Everyone in their place," triggered a wave of reactions among Otero's followers, who celebrated its irony in the comments.

"Ever since I saw that she, being Cuban, accepted the role in the film 'La Red Avispa', I marked it with an asterisk, and well, there it is," commented a user, referencing the controversial role that the actress played in the film.

Other comments followed in the same biting tone: "Here comes the ‘Day and Night’ theme for Lieutenant De Armas," "National snitch of the CDR," and "It will be a promotional campaign for community services."

The posts were accompanied by countless laughing emojis, reflecting the popularity of Otero's publication among Cubans critical of the system.

Context of the controversial romance

The relationship between Ana de Armas and Manuel Anido Cuesta was recently made public, provoking divided opinions both on and off the island.

While some of the actress's followers have defended her personal life, others have questioned her closeness to a member of the presidential family in a context where the Cuban government faces international criticism and discontent from a significant portion of the population.

Carlos Otero's post not only amplifies these criticisms but also highlights how public figures, even outside of Cuba, use social media to express their opinions on issues that reflect the political and social reality of the island.

Ana de Armas: between success and controversy

Ana de Armas, globally recognized for her success in Hollywood, has faced scrutiny from some Cubans who criticize her involvement in projects like La Red Avispa, which addresses the work of Cuban intelligence from a perspective that many view as biased in favor of the regime.

Now, his relationship with Anido Cuesta seems to have rekindled the debate about his figure and his connection to the island, generating a mixture of admiration for his talent and questions regarding his personal and professional decisions.
