Several social media posts reported on Wednesday the discovery of human remains floating in the waters off the Malecon in Havana.
An internet user identifying as Isabell Isabell posted a video on Facebook showing a large gathering of people in the vicinity of the discovery, along with the presence of fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles attending to the scene.
The user accompanied her post with the following comment: “A young man is murdered and dismembered, and they throw the pieces in the Malecón of Havana. Oh my God, how long will the violence in Cuba continue!!! These blessed police, they're absent where they need to be. My condolences to his family and friends.”
The Facebook profile "La Tijera" also reported the discovery: "Human remains found on the Malecón in Havana."
"The forensic experts and divers from the Rescue and Salvage Command are currently working at the site," he stated.
Among the comments, a person named Tito Sánchez reported that, allegedly, the find corresponds to the body of a soldier from the Morro-Cabaña prevention unit.
"Yesterday, he had an accident at El Morro while spending the day with five others during their day off. The family is from Camagüey and is desperate. Recognition goes to one of his companions who heroically jumped in to rescue him, but was unable to and sustained physical injuries."
He also noted that the source of the information is "some fisherman friends" who told him "about the tragedy that occurred behind the Morro, in the reefs."
However, at the time of writing this information, the identity of the victim remains unknown, and the authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the discovery.
In 2023, a young Cuban musician known on social media as "Eduardo White King" was murdered in Havana, as reported on social media by Geisel Mergarejo Angarijo, a close friend of the victim.
The body of the young man was found floating in the Havana waterfront, and his loved ones are asking for justice.
