A tragic accident occurred in Santiago de Cuba on Tuesday when a 14-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a car in the municipality of Songo-La Maya.
According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada's post on Facebook, the minor was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a car that fled the scene and did not offer assistance. However, it appears that the driver later turned himself in at a police station.
The teenager was named Maikel Adonis Diaz Labañino and lived on La Isabelita Street with his parents and a baby brother just a few months old. He attended Luis Alfonso Silva Tablada Secondary School.
A follower of the reporter mentioned—according to rumors—that the car was speeding and the child was properly using the crosswalk.
"A car was coming from the opposite direction, and the driver of the green vehicle, to avoid colliding with that car, hit the boy who was riding a bicycle. And the guy didn't even stop; he just left him lying in the street like he was a dog," he detailed.
A doctor present at the scene assisted him, but upon seeing his condition, he remarked that he would not make it to the hospital alive.
The boy was transported alive to the North Children’s Hospital (La Ondi), where he later died.
