“Look at your belly. It's full of fat. Have some shame, get up right now and go to the mirror. What's wrong with you?” This unfiltered reprimand from a Cuban living in the United States went viral on TikTok and has left no one indifferent. In a firm and direct tone, this young woman sought to remind her followers that excuses don’t help when it comes to improving health and adopting healthier habits.
The author of the message is Randely Valdés, known on TikTok as @randely29, who did not hesitate to address the effects of overeating with conviction. In the video, which has already garnered more than 25,000 likes and hundreds of comments, the creator was clear in stating: “If you feel bad about your body, you can't be indulging like that. My daughter, that's why you look the way you do. Stand in front of a mirror and look down. If your belly prevents you from seeing the tips of your toes, you can't overeat today. Have some self-respect.”
Her message also included a call to change the food-based reward mentality: “You’re not a dog to be given a treat every time you exercise. What you need in your life are hobbies. Find things to do instead of constantly eating, sweetie, in front of the television.” Among the alternatives she suggested are walking, reading, painting, or even learning to do makeup.
The reactions came quickly, and while many supported her, others questioned her tone. “I felt offended but encouraged, haha, I love her,” one user confessed, while another added, “Every time I want to eat, these videos pop up and make me reflect.” For some, it was exactly the motivation they needed: “I was lying down and then I started jumping rope”; “I saw this while I was eating a bun, but I put it down” or “I literally changed my habits so Randely wouldn’t scold me.”
However, there were also critical comments that offered another perspective. “Beautiful, but there are people who suffer from anxiety when eating. Not everything is as easy as you portray,” noted a follower. Another person joked about her tone, saying, “Today I feel like Matilda when her dad yelled at her, but I love it.” Some even asked for this type of video to be part of their daily routine: “I need you in front of my fridge every day, how do I make that happen?”
Randely is no stranger to this kind of controversy. In previous videos, she criticized the "extra large" portion sizes in the United States and shared tips for those looking to improve their lifestyle, such as avoiding sharing goals with people who might sabotage them. Although her style may seem aggressive, her message continues to evoke thousands of reactions, ranging from laughter to deep reflections.
"Do you have hobbies or are you still just eating?" This is the question that seems to summarize the philosophy of Randely Valdés, who, with her unique style, makes it clear that there are no excuses for neglecting health.
