Alexander Delgado talks about El Micha's stance on Cuba and exile in Miami

Alexander Delgado defends El Micha's freedom of thought, despite the criticisms from the Cuban exile community. Delgado shares his similar experience and reaffirms his critical stance towards the Cuban government.

El Micha has been sidelined in Miami due to his views on Cuba and his decision to continue performing on the island despite the criticism he has received from the Cuban exile community; regarding the political stance of artist Alexander Delgado, he made his point of view clear.

In a recent interview with Tony Dandrades at his new restaurant Lo D’ Alex, the member of Gente de Zona said he is “very aware of El Micha's position.”

“I can answer you because I experienced it. I believe that no one has the right to force anyone to think in a certain way; we live in freedom for a reason, so that you can think one way and I can think another. I believe that what happened to El Micha could have happened to many people (...) I know that many Cuban artists do not truly understand what exile is because I went through it when I arrived and faced a similar situation where I was attacked, where I unintentionally disrespected the exile without knowing, and I was attacked by people who represent the exile that, for me, do not truly represent it,” Alexander recalled.

El Micha is my friend and will continue to be my friend for life. I will not fall into a contradiction nor am I going to fight with El Micha because he thinks differently, we are simply always going to have two corners where I will respect your position and you will respect mine,” the artist affirmed.

In the interview, Alexander put himself in El Micha's position and said that his reaction is precisely due to the attacks he has received: “Since I was also attacked, it also hurt me, I was criticized too and I didn't feel good about it, I do not support that, I do not support disrespect, treating a human being like that.”

However, Alexander made it clear what his position and that of Gente de Zona regarding Cuba is: “I do not plan to return for now. Until Cuba is free, I do not plan to return. Until the situation in my country changes, until my country stops going through all that need, through all those abuses faced by political prisoners. I believe that government does not deserve for Gente de Zona to go, and I feel sorry for the people who are not to blame.”
