In another unexpected turn in the evolution of currencies in Cuba, in recent hours the freely convertible currency (MLC) and the euro have deflated in the informal market, losing the increase they had achieved yesterday.
The dollar, on the other hand, remains priced at 340 CUP.
At 9:00 a.m. (Cuban local time) this Monday, the MLC is priced at 240, which is 15 pesos less than the previous day.
The European currency, for its part, has decreased from 347.5 CUP to 342, coming closer to the value maintained by the dollar. These fluctuations confirm the volatility that characterizes the informal market on the island, reflecting the increasing demand for foreign currencies by the population, especially following the recent opening of stores that accept cash payments in foreign currency.
Exchange rate today 13/01/2025 - 9:07 a.m. in Cuba:
Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP according to elTOQUE: 340 CUP.
Exchange Rate Evolution
Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP according to elTOQUE: 342 CUP.
Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to elTOQUE: 240 CUP.
Since the beginning of the year, the informal market has displayed a pattern of progressive price increases for foreign currencies. In early January, the MLC was around 305 CUP, and the euro was close to 310 CUP.
The increase in just a few days reflects a dynamic characterized by the imbalance between supply and demand in a context of financial restrictions.
In this context, the expectations regarding the upcoming changes in exchange rates continue to create great uncertainty among Cubans.
