Cuba's Electric Union (UNE) announced power outages for this Thursday due to a generation capacity deficit close to 1,000 MW.

On Wednesday, the entity estimated an impact of up to 1,600 MW during peak hour, but it was 981 MW at 6:10 PM. The service was restored at 9:35 PM.

This Thursday, at 6:46 AM, disruptions began due to high transmission to the eastern central area.

According to the report, at 7:00 am the deficit was 75 MW. During the peak hours, an impact of 450 MW is anticipated, with a greater incidence in the central-eastern region.

For peak hours, a capacity of 2,120 MW is expected with a maximum demand of 3,040 MW, which would imply a deficit of 920 MW affecting 990 MW.

Other incidents are hindering the electrical service.

Unit 2 of the Felton thermoelectric plant is out of service, and four blocks from the Santa Cruz, Cienfuegos, and Renté plants are undergoing maintenance.

Thermal limitations result in 423 MW being out of service.

In addition, 37 distributed generation plants are non-operational due to a lack of fuel, affecting 132 MW.

Frequently Asked Questions about Blackouts in Cuba

Why do blackouts occur in Cuba?
