The United States Embassy in Havana issued a warning to Cuban citizens not to be misled by rumors about alleged new immigration policies.
Through a post on its official X account (formerly Twitter), the diplomatic mission emphasized the importance of relying solely on official sources from the U.S. government to avoid misinformation and the spread of rumors or fake news.
"Have you heard any rumors about new immigration policies? Only trust official sources from the United States government. Don't be misled by rumors and always verify that the information is accurate. Follow us on our social media to stay properly informed," the embassy stated in its message.
This statement arises at a time when unverified information has been circulating on social media and messaging applications, including forged documents claiming the implementation of new immigration sanctions by the new Trump administration.
The embassy was emphatic in explaining that any changes to the U.S. immigration policy, as well as other aspects of the relationship between the two countries, will be communicated through its official channels.
This Wednesday, a purported draft from the Department of Homeland Security, which went viral on social media, announced additional travel restrictions for Cubans to the United States, as well as other pressure measures on the Havana regime.
However, despite its wide circulation, the supposed document was denied by official sources consulted by the news portal Café Fuerte.
In that regard, U.S. authorities reiterated on Thursday that anyone interested in obtaining accurate information about visas, immigration programs, and other consular services should visit the official website of the embassy or its verified social media accounts.
To stay informed about this and other topics of interest, Cubans can follow the U.S. Embassy in Cuba on their official digital platforms and consult accredited sources like CiberCuba for updated and verified details.
