The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Thursday that Ukraine "is ready to reach a peace agreement" with Russia, and threatened Vladimir Putin with new sanctions if the war continues.

In a telematics intervention at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), the new leader emphasized that, had they remained in power, the war in Ukraine would not have occurred.

When asked if he believes the conflict that began in February 2022 will be resolved by next year, he stated: "You will have to ask Russia; Ukraine is ready to reach an agreement."

Trump also highlighted that during his time in office, he was convinced that Vladimir Putin could not invade Ukraine. "I knew Ukraine was Putin's pet project, but I also knew there was no way he would go in," he stated.

On Wednesday, Trump again warned Russia about the consequences of continuing the war, stating that if Putin does not put an end to the conflict, the U.S. will impose more sanctions.

He also mentioned that he would not hesitate to impose tariffs on Russia and extend those punitive measures to other countries that support Moscow in the war.

Since the beginning of the conflict, the U.S. has implemented several rounds of sanctions against Russia, primarily targeting its oil sector and major banks, with the aim of isolating Moscow from the international financial system.

During the same forum in Davos, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO, noting that the decision ultimately rests with the U.S. and its president.

Zelenski stated that, although most allies support Ukraine's integration into the alliance, there are four countries that oppose it: the U.S., Germany, Slovakia, and Hungary.

However, he emphasized that the key to adherence lies in the position of the U.S. president.

The position of Trump regarding Ukraine and Russia remains a key topic in international politics.

A few hours ago, he threatened Putin and described his war as "ridiculous."

In a message shared on his social network Truth Social, Trump issued a warning to the communist leader about the consequences his country would face if it continues in the conflict, urging him to make a deal.
