This is what a Cuban bought at Family Dollar for 90 dollars to send to her family in Cuba: "They deserve it."

A Cuban woman in the U.S. purchased $90 worth of products at Family Dollar to send to her family in Cuba, highlighting the significance of these shipments in light of the shortages on the island.

A Cuban resident in the United States shared a video on social media showcasing some of the products she purchased to send to her family in Cuba, a practice increasingly common among emigrants looking to assist their loved ones amid the scarcity on the island.

“I bought some things for Cuba, some at Family Dollar and others at another supermarket,” the woman explained, while showing the items. Among the products included in her purchase are personal hygiene items such as deodorant, skin cream, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products, as well as cleaning supplies like dish detergent, glass cleaner, and pain patches.

It also highlighted the purchase of food and basic utensils: "Soups, popcorn, and what can never be missing from a Cuban's bag: La Llave coffee,” he said.

Aware of potential criticisms, the Cuban clarified that her intention is to offer her family the chance to try products that, while not considered essential, can improve their quality of life. “Before you go criticizing, because I know how you all are, I understand that many of the things here aren’t necessary or aren’t of great importance, but I want them to live and know what it’s like to clean with this or wash with this,” she stated.

Regarding the total spending, the woman did not provide an exact figure, but mentioned that she spent about 90 dollars at Family Dollar. As for the groceries, she noted that she bought more items for herself, so she didn't have a specific amount for what was spent.

The video generated numerous reactions from other Cubans, many of whom identified with the young woman's gesture.

"I brought all of that for my mom; on each trip, I added something different. At least I gave her everything I could, even though I would have liked to give her more," commented a user.

Another person expressed their desire to do the same in the future: "Someday I will see myself like this, buying little things for my family in Cuba."

Many applauded the initiative and emphasized the importance of these shipments. “I feel the same way; I would buy all of that and more so my mom can try everything,” wrote another follower.

The creator of the video, identified as @thalia_hr, responded with heartfelt messages, assuring that her intention is to give the best to her family. “That’s what I try to do. They deserve that and the whole world,” she replied.

Remittances and shipments of products from abroad continue to be one of the main sources of livelihood for many families in Cuba, where inflation and shortages increasingly complicate access to basic necessities.
