The state channel Canal Caribe managed to recover its YouTube account this Tuesday after being the victim of a hack that impacted its digital presence on the platform, where unrelated content related to cryptocurrencies was displayed for several hours.

According to the outlet itself reported on its Facebook page, the restoration was carried out following the protocols established by the platform for recovering compromised accounts. Canal Caribe reported the attempt at identity theft and the publication of content that does not align with its editorial policy.

During the attack, which became evident on Monday, the account was renamed as Strategy LIVE, featuring live broadcasts and promotional videos about Bitcoin, including supposed conferences led by entrepreneurs in the crypto sector.

Although some informative videos from Canal Caribe remained available, the channel was clearly interfered with, and it is speculated that the attackers may have gained access through phishing techniques.

With over 323,000 subscribers, the official channel of the Cuban Television Information System experienced significant growth in 2024, adding more than 111,000 new subscriptions and reaching a total of 19.1 million accumulated views.

In January 2025, according to statistics cited by the medium itself, they recorded 729,700 hours of viewing, which is 108% more than in the same period the previous year.

After the restoration of control, Canal Caribe has already put its most recent content online and drew attention to these malicious digital practices, which violate the basic operational norms of the Internet and threaten the security of institutional media.

This incident adds to a series of similar attacks experienced by Cuban official entities, such as the recent hacking of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs account on the social network X, which was temporarily used to promote content related to cryptocurrencies.

Unlike that case, this incident was not publicly reported by the Cuban authorities until the publication made this Tuesday by the affected media outlet.
