The US dollar is experiencing its worst moment globally in over 50 years. Between January and June 2025, the currency has fallen by more than 10% against the major currencies of the world, but what is the situation of the dollar in Cuba?
In recent weeks, the U.S. dollar has experienced a slow but steady increase in the Cuban informal market.
June began at 370 CUP, and in a calm process - peso by peso and with few setbacks - it has risen to 385 CUP, a price that remains this Thursday after reaching it on July 2 following a sudden increase of three units.
Increase that could be associated with the signing by Donald Trump of a memorandum that tightens the economic embargo and restricts transactions with entities controlled by the Cuban regime, especially those linked to the military conglomerate GAESA.
