The grandson of Fidel Castro, Sandro Castro, has once again found himself at the center of controversy after appearing in two videos shared by Venezuelan YouTuber Cazorla Espino, filmed in Cuba and promoted on Instagram with the promise that Sandro "answers all questions."

In the first of the materials, Sandro states that he has no connection to politics and that the attacks against him stem solely from the weight of his surname.

"My surname is political, because of my family. And I am very proud of my surname, of course. But personally, I have nothing to do with politics. In fact, I don't even like politics; it's not my thing," he stated.

The young man insists that his media exposure is what makes him a target for criticism.

"Since I have also dedicated some time to working on social media, I have become more public; perhaps that's why I am being attacked," he noted.

In another segment, he announces the launch of his own record label, which he has decided to call "Castro Récord," intending to promote both his own music and that of new Cuban singers.

According to him, the initiative will also include the production of documentaries and other audiovisual content.

Between political denial and media ambition

Sandro's statements contrast with recent pronouncements that have placed him in the spotlight.

A few days ago, through a Q&A session on Instagram, he did not rule out a potential political aspiration in Cuba, although he clarified that he is not yet adequately prepared.

"For my country, I would do anything as long as my people agree", he said on that occasion, raising doubts about whether he truly wants to stay out of politics or if he is testing the waters for a future leap.

The contradiction did not go unnoticed among his critics, who accuse him of manipulating his public image to benefit from the surname that keeps him connected to power, even when he tries to distance himself from it.

An artistic career surrounded by controversy

The record label's launch coincides with the announcement that he would "begin his artistic career" with an introduction to urban music.

On August 28, the music video "La Cristach" premiered on YouTube, a collaborative track featuring three young artists who refer to themselves as "the sons of Obbatalá."

In the teaser of the song, he is heard shouting with enthusiasm: "Feel the bite that's coming, bastards," a gesture that many users viewed as another demonstration of his eccentricity and disconnection from the reality of the island.

Despite insisting that his field is "art and business," Sandro often showcases himself with luxury, private parties, and personal projects that reinforce the perception of living in a bubble, detached from the crisis experienced by millions of Cubans.

His history includes widely criticized episodes, such as when in 2021 he appeared in a video driving a Mercedes Benz during a severe fuel shortage, sparking a wave of outrage that forced him to make public apologies.

The constant contradiction

With over 126,000 followers on Instagram and his own business in Havana—the bar EFE, located at 23 and F—Sandro has built a public persona that swings between frivolity and provocation.

While claiming that he "has no privileges" and "suffers blackouts like everyone else," his appearances on social media reveal the face of an elite that is disconnected from the everyday lives of most Cubans.

Although he insists that he is not interested in politics, his last name follows him. "I am proud of my last name, but I have nothing to do with this politics," he repeats.

However, every public gesture, every statement, and every new artistic or business project brings him back into the debate about the contrast between the message of simplicity he promotes and the image of ostentation he conveys.

For critics and analysts, Sandro Castro has become an uncomfortable symbol: a blend of influencer, entrepreneur, and heir to a surname that bears the weight of Cuban history, yet which he tries to exploit under the guise of entertainment.
