The eastern region of Cuba remains virtually cut off following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, with more than 80 percent of the radio towers out of service, as reported by ETECSA in its latest update.
The Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA) stated this Wednesday on its official Facebook profile that the mobile network remains severely affected in the eastern provinces, where the average number of non-operational base stations exceeds 80 percent.
According to the publication, the highest level of damage is recorded in Guantánamo, with 92 percent of the radio bases out of operation, followed by Granma at 88 percent, Santiago de Cuba at 86, Holguín at 78, and Las Tunas at 59.
This situation causes high levels of congestion in the active radio bases, leaving thousands of users across the eastern region without coverage or with unstable signal.
ETECSA did not specify a timeline for the restoration of services, although it is easy to assume that it will take some time to repair all these damages.
Previously, the company had reported on severe disruptions in the national network, with Guantánamo, several municipalities in Santiago de Cuba and Granma, as well as areas in Holguín, experiencing a loss of communication.
At that moment, he explained that a large part of the affected mobile and fixed services depended on radio bases and cabinets that were shut down due to a lack of electricity and connectivity issues.
Hurricane Melissa has left a critical situation in the eastern part of the country, with power outages, damage to infrastructure, and isolated communities, exacerbating the difficulties in communication and the efforts of rescue and recovery teams in the most affected areas.
