The Cuban influencer Samantha Espineira resurfaced on social media alongside her lawyers to emphatically refute the statements made by Sandro Castro, the grandson of the late dictator Fidel Castro, who recently claimed to have had a relationship with her "before the pandemic."
In a video posted on his social media, Espineira expressed his annoyance at what he termed a "completely false controversy" and clarified that he has no ties nor has ever had ties with anyone associated with the Cuban dictatorship.
"A controversy has emerged that is completely false, touching on sensitive political issues related to my country, a country I have always defended, and I do not want to be associated in any way with anyone connected to the dictatorship," he said in the video.
The content creator explained that Sandro Castro himself contacted her via WhatsApp, recalling that the young man had obtained her number years ago when he reached out to her for a party project with his then-partner that never materialized. According to her, Fidel Castro's grandson allegedly used that familiarity to create content that was "humorous" with false insinuations.
“He knew that I was going to expose this publicly and wanted to say that he had something with me, something that is a thousand percent false,” Espineira emphasized, adding that during the supposed relationship with Sandro, she maintained a stable seven-year relationship and that “all of Havana knows it.”
During the video, one of her lawyers intervened to warn that when a person, beyond merely expressing an opinion, speaks about entirely false facts, they can be accused of defamation.
The lawyer's statement suggests that Samantha is considering legal action against Sandro Castro for damage to her image and reputation.
Sandro Castro insists on his version
Samantha's statements come just hours after Sandro Castro reaffirmed his version in an Instagram story. The dictator's grandson claimed that "everything was true" and that the alleged meeting took place "before the pandemic."
"What happened with Samantha took place years ago, before the pandemic. Everyone has a past; then you live in the present and the future. But I will always speak the truth," he said, asserting that he is not seeking popularity or attention.
The young man, known on social media for his provocative style and controversial statements, concluded his message with his trademark defiant tone: "The Vampirash will never fool you."
The dispute between the two has divided opinions on social media. While many users support Samantha Espineira and criticize Sandro Castro's "search for notoriety," others believe the version presented by the dictator's grandson.
