Pumpkin Flan is a dessert that is consumed in many places around the world. In Cuba, this dessert is very popular since pumpkin is an ingredient that is easy to obtain, nutritious, and inexpensive. There are different recipes, and you can find two on our page. On this occasion, we show you the most economical way, which is also the most common on the Island. But if you wish, you can also check out Yani Gil's recipe, a formula that includes eggs and two types of milk (condensed and evaporated). Both preparations are very delicious. This recipe is the perfect finishing touch to end a meal. We hope you enjoy it.
Ingredients:
- 1½ pounds of pumpkin
- 1 can of condensed milk
- 2 cups of water
- 1 piece of cinnamon stick
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- 6 tablespoons of cornstarch
- ¾ cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
Instructions:
Peel the pumpkin and boil it until it softens. Drain it and set it aside.
Mix the condensed milk with the 2 cups of water. Infuse half of the milk with the cinnamon, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Mix the other half with the cornstarch, sugar, and pumpkin. Put it in the blender and blend until it forms a thick puree. Then add the hot milk, removing the cinnamon stick.
Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Pour it into a mold coated with caramel and let it cool until it sets well before unmolding.
