- 2 or more eggs
- ½ cup of Vita Nuova sauce or Fried Tomato
- 2 ripe plantains
- Frying oil
- 1 cup of rice
- 1 ½ cup of water
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- 1 clove of garlic (optional)
For the rice
To make white rice, most Cubans use a rice cooker. If you don't have one, you can use a regular pot.
Wash the rice, drain it, and place it in the pot or saucepan. Add the oil, salt, and mix them. Then cover with water and cover it. Let it cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes. When it's dry, stir it with a fork and cover it again. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
Wash the bananas, peel them, and cut them into 1 cm thick rounds, making a crosswise cut. Fry them in a pan with a little oil. Drain them on paper towels.
In the same pan, fry the eggs. Cook them to your desired doneness.
In another pan or pot, heat the Vita Nuova sauce.
To serve Arroz a la Cubana, place the white rice in a mold and flip it onto the plate. Add the fried egg and the fried bananas. If you are serving it for yourself, add the sauce to your liking, but if it is for someone else, avoid adding tomato on the rice as it damages the aesthetics of the dish and interrupts that delightful moment of mixing colors with the fork.
