Coconut Candy is one of the most common desserts in Cuba. It is very easy to prepare. It can be eaten on its own, with different types of cheese, with cookies, with bread, or combined with other desserts. It is also a basic ingredient in making some classic Cuban sweets such as Coconut Cake, Coconut Panetela, Caramelized Coquito, etc.
Coconut has many properties. It is rich in potassium, iron, and calcium. Everything from the meat, the water, to the oil is consumed, not to mention the various uses it has in cosmetics, health, and other areas. Enjoy this simple and delicious recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of natural shredded coconut or 150 grams of dried coconut
- 2 cups of sugar
- 2 cups of water
- 1 pinch of salt
Instructions:
In a pot, put all the ingredients and mix them.
They should be cooked over low heat for about 45 minutes, stirring constantly. If the coconut dough is fresh, it shouldn't be cooked too long because it tends to become hard.
You can add cinnamon sticks or a teaspoon of vanilla in this cooking process, but it is optional.
Avoid letting the coconut candy dry out too much. To know the exact point, just stir it until you can see the bottom.
Pour it into a glass container and let it chill.
Serve it cold with cream cheese.
